      The article reports on the opening of four lifestyle hotel chains in the San Francisco Bay Area, California by the end of 2017 including Richard Branson's Virgin Hotels, celebrity chef Nobu Matsuhisa's hotel brand San Francisco Proper and 196-room Virgin San Francisco. It highlights the geographic constraints of San Francisco due to which the city has long been fertile ground for independent, small-chain operators.
